From: amadeus@ccwf.cc.utexas.edu (Susan Harwood Kaczmarczik) Subject: Re: pronounce Daoine Sidhe Date: 22 Sep 92 16:36:52 GMT The pronuciation given in my Irish-English/English-Irish dictionary is "din-yuh." This pronunciation is based upon a neutral dialect developed by Institiu'id Teangeolai'ochta E'ireann, or the Irish Linguistics Institute. Sidhe is pronounced somewhere between "shee" and "shi", longer than the second but a hair shorter than the first. However, no one will really quibble with "shee." I have tried, but cannot think of an effective way to convey the difference between pronouncing these syllables with any form of American accent and making a good attempt at an Irish one. Maybe one needs a certain amount of Guinness to achieve the effect. :) Beannacht deithi 's mhuintire. ===
