Since we know the writers confessed that they gave the best lines to the
actors who delivered them correcctly, as opposed to saying something
with approximately the same meaning but losing the edge of wit...

Gan (being a smaller fellow) will be given a background that includes
martial arts to explain how he killed a trooper with his bare hands. In
season 3 we will find out his 'woman' was never killed after all, but
pretended to be dead as part of a Federation trap to get this clever,
lethal bastard locked away. 
Gan will get most of the best lines and have to really use his brains to
get around the fact that he can't kill. We will see him as a great
bluffer, and get a lot of tension from the fact he once was Federation
military and has emotional conflicts between what he once believed and
his loyalty to Blake combined with the fact he's been screwed over by
the people he worked for. 
Avon, OTOH, will be sullen and quiet most of the time, occaisionally
giving technical information and getting killed off in the second season
because the actor is tired of playing such a nerd.

Any ideas what the rebels would do?

I've decide Halloween, not Christmas, is the holiday Avon counts off the
days until. The rest of the crew find fake eyeballs in their omlettes,
spiderwebs over the bridge, sound chips playing ghastly noises hooked up
to motion detectors all around the ship...

As for costumes:
Blake> something along the lines of William Wallace, Thomas Jefferson,
maybe even Robin Hood (like that would be so different from his usual
clothes)
Avon> Spanish matador, maybe? Giant lobster? An android?
Jenna> She'll try to find out what Blake is wearing and match it. Or
maybe she'll try to be whoever Farah Fawcett played on Charlie's Angels. 
Vila> Will disguise himself uncannily well as Avon. He will then try to
'Trick or Treat" in the other's rooms while they are at Avon's party.
Cally> Will ask lots of questions, then decide to dress as a witch, only
she won't be a warty-nose type, but wear street clothes and carry a few
Wiccan holy symbols. 
Gan> Will be a ghost, wearing a bedsheet with eyeholes cut out.

Well, since Michael Keating was up for the Doctor, you could always have
Vila as the Doctor, and Avon in the mini skirt. Not that I'm sure that's
an improvement. 

Avon would probably insist on taking the sonic screwdriver apart to see
how it works. Or worse yet, the Tardis.

The idea of Morticia and/or Wednesday Addams on the Liberator appeals a lot 
to me (or - let's see - Servie is the only one who could wear Morticia's 
get-up, and Servie with long hair would take a bit of getting used to.

PS - Totally OT, (B7 *or* Hallowe'en) I finally got to see Galaxy Quest - 
well, the week it was here, I wasn't :-( - did anyone else think those 
little aliens half-way through looked suspiciously like Teletubbies?

This show is really picking up!. I mean, I thought the two-parter was OK,
but we're really getting some nice stuff here.

To Loose The Fateful Lightning looked like being crap - kids already? - but
turned out better than I expected. (well, let's face it, it was Mad Max
Beyond Thunderdome)

D Minus Zero, OTOH, was damn good. Not because of the plot, or the effects
(neither better than average) but because of the character interaction.

I've said before that I felt the show would be a mix of B7 and what Crusade
should have been, but after four episodes I think it's more outright the
new Blake's 7. Like B7, it's the interaction of the characters that really
holds the show together over and above not entirely original storylines and
less than state-of-the-art effects. (In last night's D Minus Zero I was
struck by how much this bickering is how the Starfleet/Maquis undertones to
Voyager ought to have gone)

To this I suspect we can pin the characters as:

Dylan- Blake
Tyr- Avon (my fave - in both shows)
Beka- Soolin
Harper- Vila. The windscreen speech totally sealed that one.
Rev- (probably third-season) Cally
Trance- first or second season Cally
Andromeda- Jenna.

The outcome of last night's episode was even lifted from Harvest Of Kairos
but thankfully without the man-eating hoover-bags....

He would be nastier than Jackson in the scene where Gan threatens the guard,
in Space Fall, and in the scene where he threatens Arco, in Cygnus Alpha; he
wouldn't seem so dumbfounded after Kara's kiss; his moral objection to Blake
in Shadow would weigh more; and his final words, 'I'm not worth dying for'
would be pronounced with a touch of irony and anger. (Just my impression.)

Standing at the wrought iron gate, looking up at the dark, sinister house
above, Avon hesitated, wondering how difficult this would be.  Finally,

he did this, there would be no turning back, and he really had no idea
what was waiting for him on the other side of the door.  But he rang the
bell.

In a moment, a tall, lumbering figure stood in front of him, pulling the
door aside.  "You rang?"

"Er, hello," Avon said, walking past him into the house.  His normal
urbanity seemed to have abandoned him, "Is anyone here?  I mean the
family? Are they -"

He was cut off by a high pitched scream.  He looked up and saw her, the
lady of the house, tall and beautiful, black hair streaming around her
pale face as she ran down the stairs.  Then, she had her arms around him.
 "See who's here!" she yelled out to everyone in the house, "Gomez,
children, everyone, my baby brother's come back!"

The trepidation he had felt vanished.  The prodigal son had returned. 
Avon was home at last.

More outright? It's so totally the new B7, it's freaky (the idea of
anything Gene Rodenberry derived becoming B7, to me, is just a little
like the idea of King Lear performed by the Peanuts gang [I suppose
Charlie Brown would replace "Blow winds blow" with "Good grief"]). Don't
get me wrong, I like the little I've seen so far, but it's freaky.

Everybody remember Cygnus Alpha and the bit where Avon tries to convince
Jenna Blake will get them killed and that they should dump him and take
the ship?  In the part where I came in, Tyr (the Avon avatar) was trying
to convince Beka (blond space captain with a big tough streak) that Dylan
was going to get them killed and that they should dump him and take the
ship.

Imagine Avon with long hair and a chain mail shirt, an Avon willing to
play basketball (he cheats).  This really shouldn't be working.  But it
is.  Good grief....

I'm thinking Beka- Jenna, but I may change my mind.

If Cally had been a really ugly guy who disagreed with her people about
whether it was right or wrong to kill other people by laying eggs in
them, then yeah (that's part of what gets me. As with Tyr, you're
thinking this character shouldn't be so much like that character the
resemblance is freaky).

I dunno...  I haven't seen _Andromeda_ (yet), but IMO by  its last
season _Deep Space 9_ had a lot more in common with B7 than it did with
TOS...

Its a show created from a few notes by Gene Roddenberry.   Apparently the
notes were found in a box by his widow and the show developed from there -
Roddenberry's influence really isn't that big.  Anyway, its shown on Fox in
North America (Saturday's at 3pm EST).  I'm not sure about the UK, but I bet
Sky One will show it as its a Murdoch company.  I've not seen too many shows
myself, but it does look quite good.

Andromeda is shown in the Philadelphia area on Fox at 6 PM Saturday.  The
show definitely grows on you.

Ye Gods! And Steve was disturbed by the thought of Vila dressed like Andy 
Pandy. He was, however, lucky that I wasn't considering Leela's costume. Or 
some of Peri's - Vila with cleavage is a bad, bad vision indeed, but 
probably good nightmare material for those who are still in October 31, 
rather than November 1.

There is a little of that.  But I don't think any of them have to worry about 
being drafted by the NFL.

The relevant scene is right after their conversation with the headless 
android, when the android talks about fulfilling its destiny.  Avon tosses 
the head to Vila.  Soolin leads the run through the door, Vila with the 
football is right behind her.  Avon and Tarrant throw ineffectual gurney 
blocks on the android, while Dayna tosses a cart in the doorway, blocking 
*her* team from moving down the field.  I guess growing up on Sarran didn't 
prepare her for complicated pro football playbooks.  Or she got mixed up as 
to which was their goalpost. ;)

I love HEADHUNTER; it's full of drama and humor.  But sadly lacking in skin.  
Resuscitating Vila and Tarrant by attaching something to their clothes was 
one of B7's most disappointing moments.
