I'm finally able to watch my B7 videos again, so decided to start at the
beginning - and I saw something rather strange.
The first time Tel Varon goes to meet Blake - he shows the guard Blake's
details and the guard activates a circuit - causing Blake's cell to appear
where a wall used to be. It looks like the cell appeared in front of the
existing wall. I was wondering if this was meant to be some form of
teleportation, or just a bad attempt by the effects guys to show the
dropping of a force wall.
Maybe when the early episodes were written, Nation envisaged teleportation
technology to be abundant in the Federation, then changed his mind during
Cygnus Alpha (there is a point at the end of The Way Back, when Varon is
shown dead, where Dev Tarrant orders their murders to be shown as a
"transporter" accident - but this might just mean a vehicle incident). Or
maybe the director got things wrong and wanted the cell and prisoner
teleported in. Either way, it looks very strange and after seeing the scene
twice, I'm not sure what they were trying to show.
Any ideas?

Always looked like a solid wall being made transparant to me. The barrier is
still there - Varon can't get into the cell.

No, I don't think Nation was clumsy enough to use the Star Terk term in his own
series to mean teleport. I think transporter was a handy generic term to avoid
having to say 'car' or 'flyer' etc. Only once in the series does a character
goof and say 'beam me up' but I can't recall which episode so don't know who
wrote it.
